Cherryville led 14-6 after exploding for eight runs in the third inning, but Rowan rallied for nine runs in the fifth. Laurens shut out Cherryville the rest of the way.

"I can't say enough about Matt," Rowan coach Michael Lowman said. "I can't believe he came in and shut that team down for three innings." Ethan Fisher homered for Rowan (5-1, 2-1). Russell Michalec, Zach Smith, Hernan Bautista and Zach Simpson also had big offensive nights. Post 115 rained out The Kannapolis-Stanly County American Legion game scheduled for Sunday was postponed by rain. The game will be made up June 13 in Albemarle.

Choi edges Moore at Memorial Associated Press DUBLIN, Ohio Choi celebrated the biggest victory of his career at the Memorial. Choi ran off four straight birdies on the front nine to take the lead, then finished with three clutch par saves from the bunkers and gallery to close with a 65, giving him a one-shot victory over Ryan Moore. Tiger Woods made progress in his final tournament before the U.S. Open. He shot 67 to tie for 15th place.

THE BOEING CHAMPIONSHIP DESTIN, Fla. Loren Roberts SOUTH FROM PAGE 3B Carrigan allowed three consecutive singles to start the bottom of the fourth, but he got out of that jam with three straight strikeouts. "If you can say this," Concord coach Ronnie Bost said, "he threw too many strikes. He threw right at 100 pitches, threw about 73 strikes. The only problem was he threw too many 0-2, 1-2 strikes that those guys capitalized on.

"The ball Wagner hit out of cen- ter, he just left some balls up in the zone ahead in the count." With Brown nursing an early lead South added its fifth run in the fifth inning on a Jonathon Basinger double Concord didn't get another hit until the seventh inning. Post 51 (4-5, 2-4) trailed 5-2 going into the eighth and got within 5-4 when Shane Reedy lined a one-out, tworun home run to left in the top of the inning. Wright let Brown get out of that inning and figured he'd replace him if the leadoff batter got on base in the ninth. Once Brown got past that hurdle, he recorded his seventh strikeout and allowed a single before Weber came to bat. A ARENA Monday, June FOOTBALL ALL 10:30 p.m.
