Amother decided toback out oftraveling with her fiancé after discovering hehad arranged first-class tickets for himself and his children, while leaving her two kids tofly ineconomy class. This sparked amajor online discussion, with many supporting the mother for standing her ground onbehalf ofher children.

Here’s the full story.

Myfiancé has 3kids from his former marriage, whilstI have 2. Imade the choice tostep back from work and <strong>pursue mydegree full-time, while hebecame the primary financial provider. However, Istill contribute tothe household financially with mysavings, andI take onmost ofthe childcare and household chores.

Hewanted meand mykids toattend Thanksgiving with his family. Wewere set toleave yesterday toget toarental place early. Hebooked our tickets and everything, but later, before the flight, Ifound out thathe, his kids and myself were put in1st class whilst my2kids were put ineconomy.

Iwas stunned, heacted like itwas anobig deal and toldus that itwas just afew hours and the kids could “deal with itfor alittle while.” Iwas shocked and asked him how hethought that was acceptable. Hegot angry and told methat since hewas paying for the tickets, wewould follow his rules.

Icouldn’t believe whatI was hearing, soI took mykids and left the airport. Hefollowedus, shouting forus tocome back, butI told himI wasn’t going tospend Thanksgiving with his family anymore. Myyoungest was upset because itwas her first time flying withoutme.

Heended upgoing with his kids, and mychildren andI stayed home. Since then, he’s called repeatedly, trying toberateme, even having his mother text methatI needed to“get over myself” and stop teaching mykids tobespoiled and entitled. She said that missing Thanksgiving over something “sotrivial” showed mytrue character and mindset, orlack thereof.

Ihaven’t responded, butI feel awful. Did Imake the wrong choice bywalking away?

Inthe comments, many people sided with her.

  • Heneeds torealize it’s not about first class plane tickets, it’s about viewing your kids aslesser than his. This will beacommon theme inyour marriage ifyou gothrough withit. Queen_Aurelia/ Reddit
  • First strike: Wrong for him tosegregate your kids downward. Second strike: wrong for him toseat minor children away from aparent without that parent’s knowledge. Last strike: that heand his mother have teamed upagainst you. TrainingDearest/ Reddit
  • Your fiancé seems tobemissing the point: It’s not that you expected your kids tobein1st class, but that once everyone else was in1st class, itwas not okay toput them ineconomy. Mybrother’s widow isremarried tosomeone who makes alot ofmoney. Ican assure that hetreats her kids exactly ashow hetreats his own. DemainTomorrow/ Reddit
  • Either all kids fly one way ornodice. Ifyou can afford first class for4, you can afford first class for 6or all fly economy ifyou don’t want kids tofeel entitled. Hehas clearly shown where your kids rate tohim, especially over his kids. Independent-Top3524/ Reddit
  • His kids infirst class, your kids ineconomy? That’s abad sign for the future. Then his response istoberate you and future MIL, calling your kids spoiled and entitled? Even worse. Itwould not have ended here. Iwould bedone with that relationship. corgwin/ Reddit

Update.

I’m currently packing tostay with mymom, taking mykids withme. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, butI kept thinkingI should overlook itsince I’ve invested somuch into this relationship.
Now IrealizeI need some distance and time tothink things through. Mykids come first, andI hopeI don’t lose sight ofthat.

Inasurprising turn ofevents, awoman’s steadfast refusal torecline her seat after amother with ababy made aheartfelt request has ignited intense debates online. This captivating story dives into the tense confrontation, examining the viewpoints ofboth passengers and the larger implications for proper airplane behavior.
