On March 31, 2025, FedEx Express (FX) initiated its cargo flight from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to the continental United States, marking it as one of the longest non-stop cargo routes globally.

Flight FX 5601, operating six times weekly, the service utilizes Boeing 777 freighters, each capable of carrying approximately 88,000 kg of cargo.

This route eliminates the need for shipments to transit through Japan, reducing transit times by up to 24 hours. For instance, cargo collected on Saturday from Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand can now reach the US by Monday, compared to Tuesday previously.

The flight distance between Singapore and Anchorage is around 10,737 Kilometres(6,671 Miles). Well, it’s difficult to keep track of the longest flight in the World as freighter carriers continuously make changes to schedules. So it is one of the longest cargo flights in the world and could be the longest non-stop flight right now.

Kawal Preet, president of FedEx Asia-Pacific, described the route as a “strategic investment” to bolster the company’s long-term growth in the Asia-Pacific.

“This flight connects a vital trade corridor between Southeast Asia and the US, supporting the region’s role as a key manufacturing and export hub,” she stated.

The service caters to businesses seeking faster and more reliable access to North American markets, particularly in electronics, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce sectors.

The launch reinforces FedEx’s position as the only logistics provider offering non-stop cargo flights from Singapore to the continental US.

This milestone enhances operational efficiency and responds to the growing demand for streamlined global supply chains, even amid uncertainties like potential US import tariffs announced in 2025.

Preet emphasized the route’s alignment with long-term economic prospects for Southeast Asia, highlighting FedEx’s confidence in the region’s growth.

Strengthening Singapore’s Air Cargo

The new flight operates from FedEx’s South Pacific Regional Hub at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), a facility pivotal to the company’s Asia-Pacific operations.

Chan Ih-ming, executive vice-president at the Singapore Economic Development Board, noted that the route “aligns with Singapore’s position as a global air cargo hub connecting the region to worldwide destinations.”

This development solidifies Singapore’s role as a critical node in international trade, handling high-value and time-sensitive shipments.

By bypassing traditional transit points like Japan, the service not only saves time but also reduces costs and carbon emissions associated with additional landings and takeoffs.

The Boeing 777 freighters, known for their fuel efficiency and large cargo capacity, further enhance the route’s sustainability and reliability.

This positions Singapore as a preferred gateway for Southeast Asian exporters targeting the US market.
