Attention, UVic Students! A Planned Power Outage is Coming
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the university will be performing essential maintenance on equipment that supports the electrical supply to campus. This maintenance is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and electricity will be out for several buildings on campus during this period.
The following buildings will be affected by the outage:
- Most residence buildings
- University Houses 1, 2, and 3
- The Campus Services Building
- Campus Security
- The Bev Glover Greenhouse
Electricity, internet, and Wi-Fi availability may vary from building to building, as some have backup generators that provide limited power.
Campus Safety
Campus Security will be open on November 15 with full services available. If you need accessibility support or have safety concerns, please reach out to them. In an emergency, call 9-1-1 and then Campus Security.
Student Housing
Most residence buildings will be without power, internet, and Wi-Fi on November 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You don't have to vacate your building during this outage, but the rest of the campus will remain open for normal Saturday hours.
We encourage you to take advantage of the many alternatives available to stay warm, access Wi-Fi, and charge your devices.
Food & Dining
The Cove will be operating on a generator during the outage and is open 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 15. Some services may be limited.
Starbucks is closed on November 15, but you can grab a cup of coffee and some good food at the BiblioCafe, which is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Stay Informed
We'll update this notice when power is restored to all buildings. Check uvic.ca for updates.
Prepare for the Outage
- Save your work and turn off your desktop computers.
- Ensure your devices are charged.
- Turn off and unplug your electronics, including electric heaters.
- Close your windows to help maintain heat.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to help keep food cold.
- Keep stoves and other appliances turned off until power is restored.
- Never use a camp stove, barbecue, or propane or kerosene heaters indoors. A build-up of carbon monoxide gas in closed areas can be deadly.
- Never plug a portable generator into an electrical outlet. This can cause electrical danger to your neighbors and utility workers.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to perform these necessary repairs.
